The Trident Project

For quite a few years, and building on my love for Radio/Controlled model aircraft I have dreamt of constructing an "Unmanned aerial vehicle" (UAV). This machine, would be capable of autonomously performing various missions, such as flying the length and breadth of the island, circumnavigating the island, and flying from one of our nearest island neighbors back to home base. Naturally, I would like to capture various sensor data (pressure, humidity, temperature, and so forth), along with still and video imagery during the flight.

I've given it plenty of thought over the years, but knew I was unable to produce suitable electronic flight hardware on my own. Then I discovered Bill Premerlani's UAV Development Board (UDB). I studied it's capabilities and audited the projects discussion group at it's Google home and I decided the time had come to persue my dream furthur.

For lack of inspiration, I elected to name this project after the device from our national flag. Hence, "The Trident Project". The dedicated airframe is also named "Trident". The colour scheme for this web-page, while admittedly ghastly, was similarly inspired by our national flag, so keep your rude comments to yourself! :)

I don't know how far I'll get with this -- resources (aka "dollars") are scarce -- but I'll document any progress as I go along. One thing I can predict right from the start: Whatever success I achieve will not be due to any genius of mine. That honour belongs to Mr. Premerlani, and the team of clever, dedicated people who support his amazing UDB!
