Flight of Fancy
Flight of Fancy

I've been interested in R/C aircraft since I was about ten years old, but the high cost of entry and my own destitute condition has always prevented me from getting involved. Periodic resurgence of interest has always lead to my regretfully deciding against involvement, until early in 2001 when Digital Man (who always seems to talk me into things) re-awoke the oft-dormant interest.

At last, it looked like I just might be able to afford the entry-fee, and subsequent fortuitous acquisitions put me on the road to my first R/C flight.

Perhaps "on the road" isn't the best expression to use under the circumstances...

Under Construction
Under Construction: Aircraft being readied for flight

There's always a bunch of stuff under construction. A kit that's been sitting on a top shelf, unopened, for years. A plan rolled around a couple bits of wood that I plan to turn into an aircraft some day. A completed airframe awaiting some MonoKote. A near completed model that's being feverishly worked upon to get it ready in time for a rapidly approaching flying-event. Always something!

Check here to see what's being readied for flight...

Flight-ready

Visit this section to see the aircraft that are flyable right now. This list may include conventional glow-powered aircraft, as well as electric-powered and slope gliders. No turbine models. (Yet!)

Rest In Pieces
Rest In Pieces: Nothing lasts for ever...

This section describes aircraft that flew once upon a time but for some reason, no longer do.

Entirely too often, the reason is because some numb-fingered idiot of a pilot piled it up with the throttle wide open and the splinters were too small to glue back to gether again! Sometimes the aircraft was taken out of service deliberately, maybe because it had served it's purpose and the flight gear was needed elsewhere.

Anyway, here is what used to be and is no more...

Radio Frequency

To control a model aeroplane, you need the apropriate electronic hardware. A hand-held transmitter, an airborne receiver, and a number of servo-motors. And for electric fliers, an ESC (Electronic Speed Controller)....

746 Watts = 1 Horsepower: Energy sources

Most aircraft will require a power source of some sort. It might be a glow-powered engine, or an electric motor with NiCd or NiMh cell-packs. And good old "bungee" tubing powers many a glider aloft! Check here for what I've got.

(I've held back putting this segment of the site on the main page for about six months, waiting on this photo. Tired waiting, so here it is, not yet complete. Never mind. Some day...)

Flying Sites

Where can you fly RC? Well, there are a few sites that are in use by the local fliers. Check them out!
